We are proud to announce that scientific posters based on three Center-funded independent critical and systematic literature reviews will be presented at this year’s Society of Toxicology meeting, to be held March 27-31, 2022, in San Diego, CA.
All those who plan to attend the meeting are invited to stop by the poster sessions, meet the independent scientists who conducted the work, ask questions, and discuss the findings. The details for each poster session are below:

What is the Society of Toxicology?
Since 1961, the Society of Toxicology has been committed to “creating a safer and healthier world by advancing the science and increasing the impact of toxicology.” The society is now made up of more than 8,000 members from 70 countries.
The Society of Toxicology meeting is held every spring and attracts thousands of scientists and professionals who come together to learn about the:
- Latest discoveries from basic toxicological science
- Epidemiological and clinical research on the health and environmental effects of chemical, physical, and biological agents
- Effective prevention and mitigation approaches to improve individual and public health
What is a scientific poster?
Scientific posters give investigators a chance to present their work at a conference outside of the standard scientific panel presentations, which are limited at large conferences.
Abstracts for posters are usually submitted several months before a scientific conference takes place and are reviewed by the sponsoring organization’s scientific program committee. If the poster abstract is accepted, the lead (presenting) author is notified and the physical poster is prepared.
The scientific project and findings are displayed on an actual board (i.e. 3.75’ X 7.6’ in size) in graphical form. Boards are grouped by general topic area and set up in a large auditorium, side by side, allowing conference attendees to stop by and view them in detail. The presenting author positions themselves next to the poster to answer questions and listen to comments in an interactive discussion.
This format has advantages for the investigators, as they can see how their work is received by other scientists, hear suggestions that may lead to improvements or new methods and areas of exploration, and sometimes even result in forming productive collaborations. Recently, large conferences have allowed poster authors to include the presentation in a virtual format as well as the hard copy. For example, the Society of Toxicology meeting will allow authors to “upload electronic versions of their posters, with or without narration, for viewing as part of the enhanced 2022 meeting experience.”
