Where do you get your funding?
The Center for Truth in Science is funded by individuals, foundations, and organizations that share our mission of contributing to healthy, fair, and balanced judicial and legislative systems in which decisions are based on sound, fact-based science.
The Center’s integrity relies on its ability to solicit and fund unbiased research and develop objective reports. Many of our supporters contribute via a commonly used vehicle known as a Donor Advised Fund (DAF). These contributions are anonymous to the Center and our grantees also have no knowledge of individual funders.
Do your funders decide what you work on and what gets published?
Center leadership and board members select the Center’s research projects on issues occurring at the intersection of science, justice, and the economy.
The Center forbids “pay to play” projects where a contribution from an individual or organization Is contingent on the Center conducting a study on a particular issue. Results will be published on the Center’s website and may also be published in other scientific, legal, or business publications.
Who is on your board?
Board member bios including the background, qualification, and commitment to the mission and vision of the Center can be found here.
Does your organization have a political leaning?
The Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit, non-partisan organization. We pursue fact-based scientific evidence that can contribute to a fair and just judicial system and free enterprise system. We emphasize that we are non- partisan. We do not develop public policy positions, only fact-based scientific studies of available evidence.
How do you determine what research areas you focus on?
The Center’s CEO and Board of Directors continually evaluate the scientific, judicial, and regulatory landscapes to identify emerging issues where science and justice intersect, focusing on those issues that have the greatest potential to impact consumers and the US economy.
How is your research assessed and vetted for quality? Is it peer-reviewed?
We utilize the highest standards of scientific protocols and methodologies, and our published research will be open and transparent. The Center currently relies on the use of systematic review methodologies, which include a thorough evaluation and analysis of existing scientific studies on an issue led by independent subject matter experts.
The Center commissions systematic reviews and meta-analyses that assess and summarize the extant research regarding a specific scientific question. Center-commissioned researchers are required to meet the highest standards of research excellence, rigor, and integrity, including accountability for:
- Honesty and accuracy in the development and design of research projects, hypothesis, and processes.
- Transparency of research methods, execution, findings, and any relevant conflicts of interest.
- Comprehensive peer review of any analysis of existing research and all original research products.
The systematic review research methodology utilized in Center studies is based on frameworks used by the US EPA and other recognized national agencies. Each Center research project will undergo a thorough peer review process to ensure the accuracy of the findings.
What are your criteria for selecting a grantee?
The Center enlists researchers that have a proven track record objectively evaluating scientific claims from across the spectrum, communicating their findings, and withstanding deep scrutiny by the media, commercial interests, and any others opposed to a more fair, just, and balanced justice system.
What is your goal for these research products?
The Center seeks to discover fact-based scientific evidence by thoroughly assessing existing research publications to determine if the findings of these studies present conclusive evidence to support or deny any claims made about the research.
How do I know your research isn’t going to be used to achieve political gain?
The Center seeks facts free from political influence or bias—we do not develop policy positions or lobby in any way. Our research methods are transparent and are designed to find the truth where confusion, complexity, or questions exist.
On what issues does CTS focus?
Our focus is on issues at the intersection of science, justice, and the economy, especially the arenas in which potentially untested and unproven scientific claims are being used in lawsuits or regulatory initiatives that may be unjustified and result in significant damage to consumers, businesses, and the economy.
The objective of the research we seek to fund is to produce objective and unbiased results that the public can trust.
